Professional background
Dr Paul Stewart is a consultant psychiatrist at South Coast Private Hospital caring for both inpatients and outpatients. Dr Stewart is a general adult psychiatrist with a particular interest in anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), complex-PTSD, complex trauma, emotional dysregulation and borderline personality disorder.
He takes a holistic approach including evidence-based nutritional, lifestyle and psychological interventions in addition to medications.
Dr Stewart has gained experience working in the Illawarra, northern NSW, Northern Territory and Western Australia. He has worked in general adult, child and adolescent, older age and consultation liaison psychiatry.
Dr Stewart practiced as a registered nurse prior to returning to university to study his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery at the University of Wollongong. He has since completed his Master of Medicine in Psychiatry at the University of Sydney and a Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists.
In his spare time, he enjoys exploring the Illawarra’s national parks, traveling and is an avid aviation and automotive enthusiast.
Please note that Dr Stewart does not perform stand-alone ADHD or autism assessments.
As Dr Stewart’s focus is on treatment and recovery, he does not complete NDIS or DSP reports.
