South Coast Private has adopted an innovative approach to the management of PTSD in accordance with the National Treatment of PTSD Guidelines. Eligible patients are provided with intensive inpatient one-to-one treatment using trauma-focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (for PTSD). Please note; Health fund approval is required to participate in these programs.
We run two types of programs for patients with PTSD. The initial three week group therapy program provides a psycho-educative format by which patients develop insight into the nature of PTSD, symptom management, interpersonal sequelae, and relapse prevention. The group program also provides a stepping stone to the more intensive trauma processing program.

This program is designed for people who are experiencing difficulties with sleep at least three nights per week for the past few months. This may include difficulty getting to sleep, staying asleep, early wakening, nightmares or daytime fatigue and have a diagnosis of a mood disorder, anxiety disorder or trauma-based disorder.
The Psych Home Care service offers 6-12 home visits or visits to community locations (e.g. cafe or walking) delivered by a psychologist, social worker or registered nurse for the purpose of supporting patients after discharge or as an alternative to admission. The aim of these sessions is to offer psychoeducation and support to implement skills for distress tolerance, behavioural activation, self-care and medication management to enhance the patient’s capacity to manage their symptoms at home to reduce the requirement for repeated inpatient admissions.
