Karen Barnett

Professional background

Karen is a clinical counsellor who offers support through proven tools, without judgement. She feels privileged to
witness remarkable transformations through hope, commitment, skills and acceptance.

Karen favours evidence-based therapies (DBT, ACT and EMDR) – those that have been researched and shown to
work. Dialectical Behaviour Therapy focuses on developing skills to manage emotions, cope with distress, and strengthen communication in relationships. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) enables change by helping people accept what is out of their control, and commit to actions that line up with their values. EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) therapy is the gold standard in recovery from trauma and other distressing
life experiences, including PTSD, anxiety, depression and panic disorders.

Karen focuses on people rather than labels – working with each person’s strengths and capacities to address
their particular needs and any difficulties or challenges they may be facing. She believes in people’s inherent
capacity to heal, to grow, to thrive – if given the right conditions and tools.
