Professional background
Dr Paul Stewart is a consultant psychiatrist at South Coast Private hospital caring for both inpatients and outpatients. Dr Stewart is a general adult psychiatrist seeing all ages with an interest in young adults with anxiety, depression, trauma, emotional dysregulation and personality disorders.
He has a particular interest in integrative psychiatry which is a holistic approach including evidence-based nutritional, lifestyle and psychological interventions in addition to medications. As a psychiatry registrar, Dr Stewart worked in the Illawarra, northern NSW, Northern Territory and Western Australia. He gained experience in general adult psychiatry, child and adolescent, older age and consultation liaison psychiatry.
Dr Stewart practiced as a registered nurse prior to returning to university to study his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery at the University of Wollongong. He has since completed his Master of Medicine in Psychiatry at the University of Sydney and a Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists. Psychiatry uniquely integrates Dr Stewart’s interests in human behaviour, sociology and biology.
In his spare time, he enjoys exploring the Illawarra’s national parks, traveling and is an avid aviation and space enthusiast.
