This 8-week program is is based on the principles of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (or CBT) and designed for people who want to identify, understand, and change unhelpful patterns of thinking which may be negatively affecting their day-to-day lives. It deals with how your current thoughts and behaviours affect you and helps you to create a plan for moving forward with your recovery.
Throughout this program you will participate in weekly group sessions. The group will be led by a qualified allied health professional who will support group participants to learn the principles behind cognitive behavioural therapy and acquire practical skills and evidence-based strategies for managing anxiety and depression symptoms. Practicing learnt skills between sessions is encouraged.
Understanding depression - Learn about factors that can contribute to or perpetuate depression and learn behavioural strategies to improve mood.
Understanding anxiety - Gain a better understanding of the causes and function of anxiety and develop strategies to manage distress.
Understanding Cognitive Behavioural Therapy - Learn the impact thoughts have on mood and behaviours and how to utilise thought challenging techniques to reframe unhelpful thoughts/beliefs.
Understanding Emotions - Learn the purpose of emotions and factors that influence emotions. Learn emotional regulation skills.
Individuals interested in attending this program will need a referral from a Psychiatrist with admission rights to South Coast Private Hospital.
